Generative AI’s weaknesses are Decision Intelligence’s strengths. Here’s how you can combine the two.

Are LLMs giving you FOMO? (That’s “Fear Of Missing Out” for the pre-millennials.)

We don’t blame you. With the hype around Generative AI and LLMs reaching fever pitch, the fear of being left behind is hard to avoid.

But here’s the thing: Generative AI is really not the sort of thing you want to rush into as a business - and especially not for fear of missing out on the latest trend.

Between inaccuracies, compliance violations, breach of contract, and biased and opaque outputs, there are a whole host of risks associated with bringing Generative AI into your business.

In a highly regulated corporate environment, technology as powerful as Generative AI needs a safety net; a layer of good sense and human expertise to buffer its risks, while optimising its considerable capabilities.

Decision Intelligence is perfectly placed to be that layer. Here’s why.

1.  Make Gen AI smarter. (No, really)

Going by some recent headlines, this may seem like the equivalent of making Ferraris faster. But believe it or not, Generative AI has some fairly significant weaknesses and as it happens, they coincide with Decision Intelligence’s strengths.

Generative AI learns from and processes unstructured data, but predictive or causal reasoning are not its strong points. Learning from the surface form of language rather than logic, these models are not baked in with common sense knowledge of the world and how it works.

We’re quick to attribute intelligence to models and algorithms, but how much of this is emulation, rather than being the equivalent of the deep industry-specific knowledge and expertise of humans?

Put simply, viabl.ai, our Decision Intelligence platform, is good very good at capturing, embedding and scaling the human knowledge and logic that LLMs lack. Domain experts can  use its intuitive dashboard to design, build, manage and optimise knowledge-based workflows which can be automated or used to support and augment your human decision-makers.

These workflows can incorporate LLMs and the specific tasks they are incredibly powerful at completing, like processing heaps of unstructured data into a wider tech ecosystem that can automate all of the necessary checks and balances required of Generative AI.

Generative AI alone is not smarter than a human worker. But Generative AI combined with the human expertise that Decision Intelligence embeds? That’s a different story.

2.  LLM integration: as easy as ABC.

How do you integrate LLMs into your existing infrastructure, products, processes, and pipelines? Where does it fit into your business?

As we explained in our recent whitepaper, Decision Intelligence acts as the central ‘brain’ of your tech ecosystem, combining all of your expertise, data, analytics and decision flows into one place.

Seamlessly embedded into our Decision Intelligence platform, LLMs can benefit from viabl.ai’s intelligent no-code orchestration, meaning that any data source can be integrated and used to extract information or even decision logic, which can be used to automate high-value decision flows.

This is when the two can really start motoring. For example, functions such as outbound marketing, inbound support and service operations, risk management and onboarding can be superpowered by Gen AI (structuring unstructured data) and Decision Intelligence (structuring decision flows using that data).

Like a match made in heaven, Generative AI and Decision Intelligence can work hand-in-hand and finish each other’s sentences.

3.  Remove the risk from Gen AI.

LLMs present risks to privacy, cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, third-party relationships, legal obligations and intellectual property can all lead to hefty financial consequences, whether in the form of fines or lost business.

‘Hallucinations’, when LLMs generate outputs that are erroneous and detached from reality, are as potentially dangerous as they sound. Fabricated and misleading information generated by LLMs can have dire consequences, especially in areas such as legal cases or financial reporting where accuracy and factuality are of the utmost importance.

Like a safety supervisor, Decision Intelligence can be used as an LLM orchestration platform, enabling prompt engineering, hallucination validation, and crucially keeping a human in the loop.

Gartner’s 2023 hype cycle placed Decision Intelligence in the same category as Generative AI as likely to have a transformational impact and go mainstream in the next two to five years.
